Volunteers are the heart of the Fife Milton Food Bank. Join our dedicated team and make a real difference in your community. Your time and talents can help us provide essential services to those in need. We welcome individuals from all walks of life who are passionate about helping others.

Helping our community

Volunteers are the heart of our service. We could never provide the services that are available if we had to pay for the time, talent and treasure that our volunteers offer to our community. The service we provide helps keep our communities safe and vibrant places to live, where we demonstrate the need to help our brothers and sisters who find themselves in need - either temporarily or longer term.

We have about 45 volunteers who generally work about 4 hours, 3 days each month for one week: Mon, Tues, and Thurs. But we are able to accommodate any desired schedule of days and hours that a person wants to help.

Who can volunteer?

Good people willing to share their knowledge and talents for the benefit of others. We are former professionals who retire from successful careers, many with advanced degrees; some are retired factory workers, teachers, computer programmers, housewives, artists, farmers and more. We always need more volunteers to help when others can't make it or their circumstances change.  All of us know we still have a lot to contribute to our communities and want to make that contribution on our own terms. It is very rewarding.

  • We have a special need for men or women who own pick-up trucks and are willing to help with food rescue efforts. A food rescue is when we go to a local grocery store, generally in the morning hours, and pick up food that is a day old or is nearing the pull date of the product, and we bring that back to the food bank for immediate distribution.

Start Here

1. Go to our "Contact" page, and on the bottom you will find a form where you can give us your name, email, and some information about yourself.

2. Call 253-922-0960 to set up an appointment to come in and talk about your expectations and how that fits with what we have to offer.

3. Begin enjoying your days with people who love what they do and enjoy being around others like themselves.

Our guest numbers are climbing at a rate never seen before nor expected.  This now forces us to increase the food rescues (picking up food from area businesses) we need to have enough food on hand to serve the increase.  A food rescue requires one or two volunteers go to a store with their pick-up truck to receive the food donation.  This means that we desperately need MORE VOLUNTEERS who own a pick-up truck and are willing to do food rescues.  Rescues are typically done in the morning (about 8am) and typically take no more than 1.5 hours. If you are able to help with food rescues on one or more days a month, please contact us by phone (253-922-0960) or via Email (fmfb2025@gmail.com)

The rewards of volunteering

Having a place to go and get out of the house and be with others who are enjoying the company of others while doing something good for their neighbors. We find it rewarding to know we are helping someone who might be struggling to make ends meet. Most of us are retired and don't want to spend our days alone or just passing the time away. We have fun while working, sharing our lives and experiences, knowing we are doing good for others.
